Overview: SMV:Green 2026
SMV:Green is the Danish Business Authority's program for green transition of Danish SMEs. The program provides a voucher of 50,000–100,000 DKK to purchase private advisory on sustainable transition — typically a green analysis, CO2 measurement and an action plan.
You pay 50% yourself (self-financing), the state covers the other 50%. The money is used for approved consultants who help you map your current green status, identify improvement opportunities, and create a concrete plan to become more sustainable.
Who is it for: Danish SMEs wanting to become greener but who don't have the budget or need for a large innovation project. It's a quick, concrete tool to get started with the green transition — without having to develop new technology.
What is SMV:Green really?
SMV:Green is not a grant to buy new green technology or maintenance. It's a voucher for advisory — to get help analyzing your current green status, identifying improvement opportunities, and creating a concrete action plan.
You apply for a pool that covers 50% of the consultant's hourly rates — typically for a green analysis and an action plan. You then pay the remaining 50% to the consultant yourself when you receive the grant payout.
Example: 100,000 DKK voucher
What do the funds cover? Typical activities:
- Green analysis — mapping your current green status and potential
- CO2 measurement — documentation of your carbon footprint (Scope 1, 2 and possibly 3)
- Green action plan — concrete plan for energy optimization, waste reduction, sustainable procurement
- Implementation guidance — help choosing the right green solutions and partners
Eligibility — check these BEFORE you spend time
SMV:Green has relatively low eligibility criteria compared to Innobooster. But you still need to meet formal requirements to avoid rejection.

Application guide: Step by step
The complete application process. Typical time consumption: 2–4 weeks and 20–30 hours of preparation.
Week -4: Find an approved consultant
You must have an approved consultant in advance. Find one from the official list on thedanishbusinessauthority.dk. Approved consultants know the process and can help you prepare the application.
Week -3: Create green analysis and CO2 measurement
The consultant creates a green analysis — mapping your current green status, CO2 footprint and improvement opportunities. This analysis is a requirement in the application.
Week -2: Prepare the application
Fill out all forms on e-grant.dk. Upload green analysis, CO2 measurement, your CVR information, and all attachments. Save as a draft — you don't submit yet.
Week -1: Check the pool date
Check innovationsfonden.dk and thedanishbusinessauthority.dk for the new pool date. Set an alarm for 11:55 — you must be logged into e-grant.dk and ready.
Day D: Submit the second the pool opens
At exactly 12:00: press "Submit" on your draft document. If you're slower than the first 1,000, you miss your chance. After submission, you'll receive a confirmation — keep it.

Top 5 pitfalls — and how to avoid them
Based on our experience as grant specialists and feedback from the Business Houses.
The problem: You apply the day after the pool date or in the afternoon. The first 1,000 spots are taken before 12:05. You don't get a chance.
Solution: Set an alarm for 11:55 on pool day. Prepare everything in advance. Submit the second the pool opens — not later.
The problem: You haven't found an approved consultant before the pool date. Without an approved consultant, you can't apply.
Solution: Find an approved consultant BEFORE the pool date. Check the list on thedanishbusinessauthority.dk. Approved consultants know the process and can help you prepare the application.
The problem: You don't have liquidity to cover your 50% share (up to 50,000 DKK). SMV:Green is paid retroactively — you pay first, get the money afterwards.
Solution: Make sure you have at least 50,000 DKK in free liquidity before you apply. If not, consider starting with a smaller green project without a grant — or look at SMV:Digital (digitalization).
The problem: Green analysis is too vague: "We want to become greener" or "We need to reduce our CO2 footprint". It must show concretely how greening improves your business.
Solution: Describe specifically: "Our current CO2 footprint is 500 tons CO2e annually. A new energy-efficient process would reduce it by 200 tons annually, corresponding to a saving of 1.2 million DKK and improving our image with customers."
The problem: You choose a consultant who is not approved for SMV:Green, or who doesn't know the process. It leads to rejection.
Solution: Check the list of approved consultants on thedanishbusinessauthority.dk. Choose one with experience in SMV:Green who can help you prepare the application.
Combination with other programs
SMV:Green can be combined with other schemes — but there are rules. Here are the key combinations.
Yes — but they must cover different activities. SMV:Green covers green analysis and action plan. SMV:Digital covers digitalization advisory. You could use SMV:Green for a green analysis and SMV:Digital for a digitalization analysis.
Both count towards your de minimis cap.
Yes — again: different activities. SMV:Green is for green analysis. Innobooster is for innovation projects with technical uncertainty. You could use SMV:Green to analyze your green potential, then apply for Innobooster to develop a new green technology based on the analysis.
SMV:Green counts as de minimis. Innobooster under 1M DKK also counts as de minimis. Both count towards your 300,000 EUR cap.
Yes — and it's one of the most effective combinations. SMV:Green covers 50% of the consultant's hourly rate. The remaining 50% you pay yourself — and if they qualify as R&D, you can get 110% deduction on them.
Example: Combination of SMV:Green and R&D deduction
Frequently asked questions about SMV:Green
SMV:Green has no fixed date. In 2025, the pools opened Thursday, March 6 and Thursday, September 4 at 12:00. In 2026, the pattern is likely the same: 1–2 pools per year, typically Thursday at 12:00. Always check erhvervsstyrelsen.dk for the latest dates.
Yes — but you must comply with the de minimis cap. If you have received SMV:Green before, it counts towards your 300,000 EUR de minimis cap. Check your total de minimis usage before applying.
No — you must have a concrete green need and a green analysis. SMV:Green is not for "testing" ideas. You must have a clear idea of what you want to greenify and how it improves your business.
No — the funds cover only advisory. You cannot buy solar panels, heat pumps or sustainable machines with the grant money. You can, however, use the advisory to choose the right one, and then buy it yourself AFTER the grant is paid out.
Unfortunately, you miss your chance this time. You could consider: (1) apply in the next pool (typically 3–6 months later), (2) look at SMV:Digital (digitalization) or Innobooster (innovation) — they open at different times, (3) start with a smaller green project without a grant.
Yes — SMV:Green has no profit requirement. You must, however, have liquidity to cover your 50% share (up to 50,000 DKK). If you don't have liquidity, consider applying for a loan via EIFO or start with a smaller project.
